9 Days Around the Koh Chang Archipelago

A day-by-day diary from a January expedition that circumnavigated Koh Chang and explored its breathtaking islands.

Nine days, more than 150 kilometres, and a full circumnavigation of the Koh Chang archipelago. Here’s how it unfolded.

Day 1 — Chai Chet to Ao Supparod

The expedition began with an exhilarating 22 km along the north-west coast, from Chai Chet to the iconic White Sand Beach, with a stop at a private bay near Koh Mapring. The energy was palpable as we soaked up the ambience at Ao Supparod and captured moments to last a lifetime.

Day 2 — The east coast & Than Mayom

We explored Koh Chang’s fascinating east coast, covering 16 km to Ban Dan Mai to see coastal communities and old temples, then cooled off at Than Mayom waterfall — completely rejuvenating under the warm tropical sun.

Day 3 — First sea crossings to Koh Wai

Panoramic views, exhilarating crossings and good food. From Salakkok village we reached Koh Ngam to recharge, made our first 3 km crossing to Koh Lao Ya Nok, then continued to Koh Wai as the sunset cast a magical glow.

Day 4 — The longest crossing

We explored the west and south-west coasts of Koh Wai and Koh Mak, took in the breathtaking landscapes of Koh Kham, and crossed the longest sea crossing of the trip — about 9 km. Our endurance was tested, and we felt accomplished.

Day 6 — Koh Mak to Koh Rang

From Koh Mak South West to Koh Rayang Nai and Nok, Koh Yak and Koh Rang — beautiful beaches, amazing underwater worlds, sea caves, camping and good food.

Day 7 — Koh Rang to Salak Phet

A crossing from Koh Rang to Koh Wai challenged us mentally and physically, but the serenity of Koh Lao Ya Nai made it worthwhile. The day ended at Salak Phet Bay — the perfect place to unwind.

Day 8 — Salakphet Bay

We explored the stunning Salakphet Bay; high tide at noon didn’t stop us enjoying Koh Prao Nai and Nok, then a peaceful break at Wai Chaek before Bang Bao’s sunset. Good food, good company, good vibes.

Day 9 — Home along the west coast

The final day on Koh Chang’s west coast marked the end of a remarkable journey — a voyage that circumnavigated the Koh Chang archipelago and explored its breathtaking islands.
