Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning

The tools to plan and navigate confidently on coastal journeys in moderate sea conditions — charts, tides, transits and dead reckoning.

Overview

Coastal Navigation & Tidal Planning

This course is designed for paddlers carrying out coastal journeys — including islands up to 2 nautical miles offshore — in areas of tidal movement up to 2 knots and winds of up to Force 4. The aim is to give you the tools to plan and navigate effectively in moderate sea conditions.

By the end of the course you will have planned at least two coastal journeys to take home as references for future trip planning. It is also the navigation day that forms part of the Sea Kayak Leader Training programme.
